District 105E

Ordinary People doing Amazing Things

Community

The men and women members of Lions clubs in this district strive to make a difference in their local community as well as in communities worldwide.

This may often be by organising events to raise money for local, national or international good causes.

It can be by joining in partnership with another organisation in a project to help needy or disadvantaged people.

It could be by supplying items no longer wanted or needed here so that they can be recycled for use in countries overseas.

In fact it can be any activity which directly or indirectly helps the wider community.

Diabetes
Diabetes Awareness is a major Lions Clubs project, we continue by whatever safe and insured methods we can to arrange screenings.

Environment

Lions Clubs International One Million Tree Project

The International President Wing-Kun Tam is challenging Lions around the world to plant one million trees in 2011-2012.

One million trees is less than one tree per member worldwide.

District Governor Robin is keen for us to support this environmental project and has set a target for district 105e to plant a minimum of 1250 trees during 2011-2012.

Message in a Bottle
This scheme is free to the user. Whilst it is focused on the more vulnerable people in our community, anyone can fall downstairs, so this scheme can benefit anyone, including you. As a minimum it will save the Emergency Services valuable time identifying you and your emergency contacts. By telling whether you have special medication or allergies or not, it is a potential lifesaver and provides peace of mind to users and their friends and families.

Many clubs in this district are active with this scheme.

Sight
Lions Clubs International is recognised worldwide for its service to the blind and visually impaired. This service began through a challenge issued in 1925 by Helen Keller, the great advocate for the blind, for Lions to become "Knights of the Blind in the crusade against darkness". In 1930 Lions introduced the White Cane, still universally used by the visually impaired.

Many Lions clubs in our district collect old and used spectacles so that they can be recycled and used overseas.

Water Water is a main essential of life and yet in many countries water supplies are dirty and contaminated. Lions clubs support and make monetary contributions to Water Aid to help alleviate this problem.
